Common Threads: News from FACES

FACES is pleased to announce our scaled-back reopening during the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Our current days and hours are Tuesday, 2-6:00pm, Thursday, 12-4:00pm and Friday, 12-4:00pm.

We are limiting our gathering size to about 6 at a time, well spaced and wearing face coverings.  We have sanitation stations set up as well. We will have two new exhibits to share.

A Study of Nineteenth-Century Basket Quilts

Our most recent show featured the the work of members of the American Quilt Study Group.  The makers were challenged to study a basket quilt from the nineteenth century and create a new quilt of their own that was inspired by the original.

From Top Left, “Red Baskets from Wales”, 25″ x 31″, Ragi Marino, Cedar Hill, Texas
“Small Ocean Waves”, 42″ x 41.75″, Kay Ross, Long Beach, California
“Pennsylvania German-Style Basket Quilt”, 31″ x 35″, Joy Swartz, Prescott, Arizona
“Make Mine Cheddar”, 31″ x 31″, Sandra Starley, Moab, Utah

FACES reached out to our Directory Member, Jackie Mathiason of Alpaca Road to see what she and other artists have been working on during the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Thank you,  Jackie!

During the pandemic I have been spending a lot of time in my weaving studio making rugs, shawls, and scarves. The fun part is the preparations that go into weaving each project.  It starts in the spring when we shear our alpacas and use their fiber to process into yarn and then hand dye it. The pictures illustrate some of what I make here on the farm.
