A February note from the Fiber Arts President:
Dear Members,
Reflecting back on this past month leaves me breathless! So many changes have happened, we are growing stitch by stitch, thread by thread, member by member.
The Quiltfolk Magazine shows us in such a positive light and it is accurate, not staged, we are actually having a great time at the UFO. Classes are filling, visitors are seeing our amazing exhibit, and our volunteer hours are just shy of 300 per month.
We are not just celebrating black history in February, as our Harriet Tubman class will continue for another four months.
The Maryland Heritage Area Authority is working with Kathleen McCulloch on a grant to document fiber artists and their stories for all to see. We are so proud to be a part of this project.
Just in the works- coming in November and December is the FACES Member Show, so keep working on those works of fiber art!
Even though February has Valentine’s Day so that you can make a fuss over someone you love…. Remember that every day is a day to show someone how much you love them with every fiber that you have!
March on to March! Victoria McConnell
Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore Presents
Becoming A Fiber Artist – Jeanne Bosse Hechmer
Jeanne is a lifelong resident of Easton, Maryland. She graduated from Salisbury State College and went on to teach middle school in Queen Anne’s County until
retiring in 1998.
Jeanne’s mother, an accomplished seamstress, taught her how to sew and do needlework. Jeanne sewed clothing and home decorating items for many years. She began quilting in 1980 and has made dozens of quilts and wall hangings.
She draws inspiration from nature, her religion, math, vintage odds and ends, and the work of other artists. Her fiber art pieces and wearables reflect her love of color,
fabric, fibers, beads and other embellishments.
Jeanne is a member of Bayside Quilters and has exhibited her work in their
shows and in local galleries.
This exhibit has been extended through to March 5th. We welcome your visit on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 12:00 – 4:00pm each day.
The exhibit is free of charge.

Yarnstorming is back in 2022!
For the third year, The Fiber Arts Center will partner with host Adkins Arboretum for the very popular Yarnstorming at the Arboretum.
Also known as yarn bombing or graffiti knitting, this fun artform uses colorful yarn instead of paint or chalk. Knitters and crocheters are invited to cozy up to an Arboretum tree with their creations.
The Yarnstorming exhibit will be on display March 6 through April 3, with a reception planned for March 13. Click here to learn more, to register, and for photos from the 2021 exhibit.

Swoon Class With Lou Diefenderfer
THE SWOON QUILT is for the Confident Beginner
March 19, 2022, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm $30 Member, $45 Non member
The Swoon Quilt is a very popular pattern that yields excellent variations based on various fabric lines. Use vivid solid backgrounds paired with modern, traditional, Kaffe or fat quarter packs to yield very different designs. You’re only making two easy blocks (half square triangles & flying geese) that come together to make your Swoon Block. Blocks are 24.5” square. They can be used as a single, table runner, four block quilt or 9 block quilt. Feel free to Google Swoon Quilts to get an idea of all the different colors available to you! Lou’s enthusiasm is contagious and she looks forward to meeting each of you!
Please call Kay Butler to sign up at 410/829-5136.
