Roberta Dean is an Eastern Shore of Virginia native who works in various media, particularly silk painting. She takes her motifs from nature, especially flowers, animals, and flora and fauna of the seashore. Roberta also experiments with Shibori, a Japanese tie-dyeing technique, which involves binding, sewing, and folding materials before dyeing to create unusual and surprising designs.
Roberta received her B. A. in art history from The College of William and Mary and her master’s in art history from The George Washington University. She taught art at all levels for many years in Accomack County schools, retiring in 2007. She has taken continuing education courses in watercolor and acrylic/oil painting, silk painting, batik and painted floor cloths. Roberta is also a member of the Eastern Shore Art League.
