Dear Members,
I have two foci for this month. The first is to call your attention to the wonderful work that Kathleen McCulloch has done to promote fiber arts and the Fiber Arts Center. With the help of a grant from Stories of the Chesapeake, she has documented the talents and skills of three fiber artists. Please be looking for the links for the three videos of these amazing artists as seen through Kathleen’s eyes. Elisssa Crouch, a world class rug hooker, will be featured this month to amaze you with her ability to turn fiber into art. Watch for it. Last month, we shared the work of Berlin, Maryland, Wool Artist, Monika Karousman.
The next is to step back and realize how far we have come in 19 months. We are now a very viable organization. Our membership has gone from 38 members to 151 members. We have had publicity in “Quiltfolk”, an internationally published quilting magazine which has brought us many visitors from afar. We have over 120 visitors to our building each month and have multiple classes every week. We feature a different fiber artist’s work every 8 to 10 weeks in our gallery, and some of them are nationally touring shows.
As a 501 C 3, we have been working to support community organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, the Denton Community Garden, the Town of Denton, Main Street Denton, The Kent Center for Handicapped Adults, the Lions Club in Denton and five quilt area quilt guilds to name a few. Our plans for next year include a children’s program in fiber arts. We are so excited about our future and our members are our backbone. We could not do any of this without your amazing support, terrific ideas, and wonderful friendships.
Deepest heartfelt thanks,
Victoria
