Dear Members,

We would like to thank our board member and secretary, Kelly Kout, as she retires from years of dedicated service to the Fiber Arts Center. Kelly was the driving force to bring our bylaws and our articles of incorporation up to snuff. She also linked us with some influential people who have helped us with our grants. She has an eye for detail that is hard to match and has contributed in so very many other ways. We will miss her at our board meetings. She has promised to keep driving over the Bridge to come to Stitch and Sews so if you see her, be sure to thank her for all she has done for all of us.

In other Board of Director news, we would like to welcome Laura Boehl and Alice Kish to the board. Both Laura and Alice bring unique skill sets and experiences to the Board. You may remember Laura from her recent stunning exhibit at the Fiber Arts Center. Alice Kish has the next exhibit and is teaching a class so you will get to know her soon. We are so delighted to have them come on board and are absolutely sure that their talent and skills will lighten our struggles and add to our successes.

Be sure to check out our classes as the last count was 26 classes were being offered. They are filling up quickly. And if you can handle the stairs, be sure to take a gander at the ever- expanding Fiber Arts Library and office area. They are really shaping up to be places to create and get work done thanks to the volunteer efforts of so many.

Here’s wishing you deep breaths of clean air!
Victoria McConnell, President

Your very own staff member, Kathleen McCulloch, who serves as the Marketing Director for FACES, has embarked on a new journey in her quest for becomming a better knitter – Level One Certification of The Master Hand Knitting Program offered through The Knitting Guild Association (TKGA).

This program consists of three levels of study and mastery before achieving Master Knitter.  Kathleen has one year to complete Level 1 which requires the knitting of up to 20 swatches to absolute perfection.  Any swatches not up to par will be returned for re-knitting.  Yikes!

Dove Wallhanging or Pillow Class

The Christmas Dove Wall-hanging is paper pieced or foundation pieced. This is a good project for students who have taken basic sewing and can sew straight and even seams.  The Dove will be made using interfacing instead of paper preventing students from needing to remove paper once sewn.

Students will learn how to: estimate the amount of fabric needed for each piece; use an ADD-A-QUARTER ruler; use the Place, Fold, Check and Cut method of paper piecing; make a sleeve to hang Dove; and, make and sew on binding.
