200 Years of Solid Color Quilts: Cultural and Regional Distinctions, 1800-2000
October 1 – December 31
Wednesday – Saturday
12pm – 4pm
Pictured above are 4 of the 23 gorgeous solid color quilts currently on display at the Fiber Arts Center through December, 2021. From top left: “Squares in a Star” by Donna Starley,
“Jazzy Yellow Checkerboard” by Cynthia Nanto, “1800s Lollipop Basket”, by Cindy Hart Crowell and “Tobacco Leaf”, by Madge Ziegler.
Solid colors create a “wow” factor and strong graphics to inspire artists and quilters. Solid colors simplify design and clarify pattern and needlework. They draw attention to regional and international styles and to changing tastes. Differences among quilts are more apparent, even while design links are revealed.
In 200 years colors have changed, but solid color quilts have always been with us. They define the earliest whole-cloth quilts, classic 19th century applique quilts, work by 20th century quilt designers, political quilts, and today’s Modern Quilt movement.
Colors are imbued with meanings, signals, emotions, and feelings. Do solid colors speak more clearly?
The Fiber Arts Center is the last stop on the American Quilt Study Group’s traveling exhibit schedule. We welcome you to enjoy this amazing exhibit and look forward to your visit.

The class enjoyed an introduction to the wonderful world of sewing by an experienced seamstress, Priscilla Hodge. Students learned the basic parts of their sewing machines including how to thread their machine, wind a bobbin, change and insert a needle and change a presser foot. Students made a pillowcase for the first session and an apron for the second session.

The Fiber Arts Center is alive with activity, people, fiber art and even the grounds are puffed-up and beautiful! Thank you to all of the amazing people who help out around here, keeping the grass expertly mowed and trimmed, plants and shrubs lovingly tended to, artwork created and displayed inside and out. Its a wonderful time to be a member here and part of such a happy and vibrant community!
