Introduction to Interleave Class
Learn how to create a “standard” Interleave Wall Hanging.
During class, most students will create an eye-catching wall-hanging, finished size 16″ x 16″.
Upon completion, we will discuss several “finishing” options and techniques. Since there are so many interleave variations, I’ll bring a variety of samples and we’ll spend time discussing how to design and construct these alternatives.
Instructor: Suzanne Worrall
Date: October 29, 2026
Time: 10am – 4pm
Cost: $45 Members/ $65 Non-Members
Supply List:
Following is a supply list for a 16″ x 16″ wall hanging.
• Sewing machine in good working order, fresh needle and all the stuff you normally use. We’ll be sewing through several thicknesses: some folks prefer a walking foot, although I do not. However, machines vary.
• Interleave Front: 4 Fat Quarters, different colors. If you look at the sample, you’ll see it’s almost an “eye test”! Generally contrasting solid colors ( or those that “read” solid) work well. However, lots of combinations are surprising! Don’t overthink your first project.
• Backing: Fat Quarter: cut 20″ x 20″.
• 1/2 yard fusible Quilters Grid, cut 20″ x 20″. This is usually marked with 1″ squares but the 2″ type also works fine. If you don’t bring it, I’ve got a supply of the 1″ grid Pellon fusible which I’ll bring to class and sell at $5.00/yard.
• Cotton (80/20) Batting, cut 20″ x 20″
Misc. Supplies:
• Marker/Sharpie Pencil. 24″ ruler, rotary cutter with a sharp blade. Mat at your sewing machine. Large mats will be available but smaller ones will save a lot of getting up and down.
• Wooden seam presser for finger/hand pressing at your seat. A couple of irons and boards will be provided.
For more information on the class, please call Suzanne at 908-638-8844 or Email her at suzeworrall@yahoo.com
To sign up for the class, please call FAC at 443/448-4611.

Natural Coiled Basketry
Create beautiful, lasting baskets with your own hands, using natural materials from your
yard and neighborhood.
This one-day, hands-on class is ideal for anyone who wants to understand and create with natural materials. Basket making is more than a craft – it is a way to reconnect with your hands, slow down, and transform simple fibers into something tangible. As we learn to work with a plant material, we understand the biology of that particular plant in a new way. We connect with the environment around us and that connection gives our work a unique, additional layer of meaning.
This class will work as a community of makers. Traditionally, the meditative time spent creating together gave makers a space to weave community knowledge. Hands and minds joined, chronicling shared stories.

Harriet Tubman “Stitching Stories of Freedom”
The Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore will be featuring a multi-month Harriet Tubman quilt class designed around appliqué/piecing techniques and commemorative historical themes.
- Project Scope: Completing 6 blocks to create a quilt tied to the themes of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway.
- Context: The classes align with local public art projects like “Stitching the Stories of Freedom: A Byway Quilt Trail Honoring the Underground Railroad,” which features historic block designs and center medallions.
Instructor: Kay Butler
Dates: January 23, February 27, March 27, 2027
Time: 10am-2pm
Cost: Members /$60 Non-Members/$80
Harriet Tubman pattern- Cost $25
Harriet Tubman panel: $20
Fabric Requirements:
Background fabric-3 yards
Dark fabric- 2 yards
Medium fabric- 2 yards
Light fabric- 2 yards
In the past when students have made this quilt, some have used batiks, others have used typical Civil War prints and some have used bright prints. It will be your quilt so you decide what fabrics make you happy! Some have used a mixture of darks, medium prints and lights which is what I would recommend. Using lots of various prints will lend great interest to the quilt so perhaps you will want to purchase a variety of fat quarters which will go well together. Whatever fabrics you choose to use, I would strongly recommend that you prewash your fabric so that fabrics won’t “bleed” when the quilt is washed in the future.
Other supplies:
Working sewing machine
Thread to match the color of your fabrics (I use cream or gray thread which will work for many fabrics.)
Cutting mat (the Fiber Arts Center has two large mats that you are more than welcome to use but if you don’t wish to wait in line, then you’ll want to bring your own.)
Rotary cutter
Omnigrid ruler
Scissors fabric and paper)
Pins
Blue water soluble marker(Walmart has these.)
Pencil
White hand quilting thread
