Dear Members,

November is a time to look around at a gathering of friends and family and be thankful. What a wonderful thing to be together. Not too long ago, we were in a pandemic and many of our traditions were put on hold, so although times may never be what they were, we can be thankful that they are better.
What about the Fiber Arts Center!  We are so thankful for the members, volunteers, all those who have donated their time and materials to make this a better place to be. We also would like to thank those who just speak positively of us to others and share our mission of passing on the traditions and artistry of fiber to the public. We have 23 classes on the calendar and 150 current members. The upstairs studio is ready for people to stitch and the light in the room is just wonderful. We are very close to having one of the best fiber arts libraries on the East Coast. We could use some help organizing our amazing collection of fiber art books. We know we are not anywhere near where we dream to take this organization, nor is our path always direct or clear and we thank those who are willing to aid us with their help.
There is a wonderful show that will delight the young and old at the Fiber Arts Center. “The Night Before Christmas” is a nationally touring show which we have the honor of hosting through November, December and the first few weeks of January.  It is up now and if you would like a festive gathering drop by on December 3 to join in the festivities.
In the meantime, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, remember that you and your presence, not presents, are the gifts most treasured.

Be safe, put your family first,
                                                                                    Victoria

The Fiber Arts Center is excited to introduce Jeanne Hechmer to you and for you to learn about her story as an accomplished fiber artist who dabbles in all sorts of quilting embellishments, fabric sculptures and unique wearable art.

Jeanne’sstory is the fourth of our four videos from the, “FACES Oral History Series, Part 2”,  chronicling the fiber arts journeys of some incredible makers from the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  These stories are made possible by a grant from the Maryland Heritage Area Authority through the Eastern Shore Heritage, Stories of the Chesapeake.  All four of the stories are posted to the “Home” page of our website www.fiberartscenter.com.

You can watch Jeanne’s story on our YouTube Channel at this active link https://youtu.be/brCS3updwyw?si=tWPnS0zIyZOJWkWe

For the upcoming holidays, the Fiber Arts Center is very excited to present “Twas The Night Before Christmas”, an amazing quilt exhibit which will begin Nov. 1 and will continue through Jan. 13, 2024.

Curated by quilt historian, Sue Reich from Washington Depot, Conn., the exhibit features miniature quilts that have been made to interpret stanzas from Clement C. Moore’s poem, ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas”, penned 200 years ago as a gift for his children on December 24th. Ten generations of children have been charmed by this magical poem of the gift of Saint Nicholas. The poem’s 28 stanzas were chosen by quilt historians and artists to recreate their special Yuletide memories of childhood. The challenge was to incorporate a miniature quilt within the larger quilt. May these quilts bring smiles and cherished memories of your own special Christmases and inspire you to keep quilts in Christmas!

There will be a member’s and friend’s reception at the Fiber Arts Center on
Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023 from 12:00 – 4:00pm.

The exhibit is free of charge and is open during our normal hours Weds. – Saturdays, 12:00 – 4:00pm.
